Seizing ESSA’s New $1.1 Billion Opportunity
Keyword(s)
ESSA, health education, physical education
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) designates health and physical education as part of a student’s well-rounded education, making these subjects eligible for federal funds and increased support. Title IV, Part A of ESSA was appropriated at $1.1 billion for the 2018-19 school year, which is an increase of $700 million over the previous year. With health and physical education listed as priorities under this ESSA block grant, local advocacy over the upcoming months about how this funding is spent — as well as funding for Titles I & II — will be critical.
In this webinar, Carly Wright, Jamie Sparks and Karen Johnson identify key themes in ESSA for health and physical education, highlight important timelines for implementation and offer the critical “next steps” all advocates and teachers must take to leverage this opportunity in schools.Webinar recorded on May 2, 2018.
