The time at the beginning and end of physical education class is vitally important and can set the stage for learning, and to create meaning and emphasize the need for student achievement. In this webinar, participants will learn a variety of creative activities that can be used as warm-ups and cooldowns in an elementary PE setting. Webinar participants will also learn a variety of simple assessments and exit strategies, as well as organizational routines that will help students and teachers make the most efficient use of time at the beginning and end of physical education class!

Description
Participant Objectives:
- When students arrive to PE class they are ready to move and learn! Therefore, the first five minutes of each physical education class are vitally important and set the stage for learning. In this session, participants will learn a variety of creative activities that can be used as warm-ups in an elementary PE setting. Examples include activities such as Barnyard Toss, Alphabet Soup, Rainbow Track Run, Animal Plate Moves and more.
- Creating connections and closure at the end of physical education class help to create meaning and focus on student achievement and goal setting for future classes. In this session, participants will learn a variety of cooldown activities, simple assessments and exit strategies that can be used in an elementary PE setting. Examples include “choose your face” self-assessment exit questions, “share-count stretching,” sticky note assessment boards, and use of Comic Life and Plickers.
- Organizational strategies and class routines are essential so precious time is not wasted in physical education. As a veteran teacher of more than 33 years, I have created effective strategies to maximize learning. In this session, participants will learn these organizational strategies and routines to make the most efficient use of time at the beginning and end of physical education class.
- Goal setting is an important component of student learning.Participants in this webinar will learn how to use essential questions and create goals to frame daily lessons and long-term units as students work toward achieving local, state and national standards.
